Medium: Charcoal and chalk on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 67 x 53 cm (26.38 x 20.87 inch). Image size: 65 x 51 cm. (25.59 x 20.08 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, creasing and soiling. Paper edges with small tears. Top corners missing, not effecting the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Based on an original by Emile Jean-Horace Vernet.

Biography engraver: Johannes Franciscus Paul Chantal (1821-1863), Dutch artist known for historical and portrait works. Son of Antoine Jean Louis Chantal and brother of Jean Adelin Louis “Louis” Chantal.

Biography artist: Emile Jean-Horace Vernet (1789-1863), more commonly known as simply Horace Vernet, was a French painter of battles, portraits, and Orientalist subjects.
