BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Possibly created during his Italian travels post-1821, when Welker moved in circles of the German-Roman artists’ colony.

Biography artist: Ernst Welker (1784?1857) was a German landscape painter and illustrator known for his idealized depictions of Italy and involvement in the salon culture of the Duchess of Courland. He trained at the Vienna Academy and was active in Germany and Italy.
