Biography artist: Maarten, Baron van der Goes van Dirxland (1751-1826) was a Dutch diplomat and politician. Born in The Hague into a prominent regenten family, he served the Batavian Republic as Minister of Foreign Affairs (1798?1808) and later entered Napoleon’s Corps l?gislatif representing the department of Bouches-de-la-Meuse. After the fall of Napoleon he supported King William I of the Netherlands and became a member of the Senate in 1815. Besides his political career he produced amateur drawings, often depicting Dutch landscapes and buildings.
