Biography artist: Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) was the most important painter and printmaker of the Dutch Golden Age. Renowned for his dramatic use of light and shadow, psychological depth, and mastery of narrative scenes, Rembrandt produced numerous biblical compositions including the celebrated Descent from the Cross of 1633. His works were widely studied and copied by students and later artists.
