This plate shows costumes of The Netherlands, early 19th century. Two women from the island of Marken in the province of Noord – Holland, The Netherlands are having a conversation. The older on the right wishes the young bride all the best. This decorative print originates from: ‘Afbeeldingen van de kleedingen, zeden en gewoonten in Holland (in de Bataafsche Republiek), met den aanvang der negentiende eeuw.’ (tranl.: Images of costume, morals and habits in the Netherlands, at the beginning of the 19th c.), by E. Re-editions appeared in (1808) and in 1811 with 4 additional plates (Nrs. 17-20). An English edition with the same plates with the Dutch/French captions was published by Maaskamp in 1808. Another edition with English texts was printed by J. Barfield in London for Colnaghi & Co, also in London in 1810.
