Plate: ‘Polygala senega L. – Senegapflanze.’ (Seneca snakeroot, senega snakeroot, senegaroot, rattlesnake root, and mountain flax.) Two leaves with text (German) included. Exact ed. unknown. This rare and delicate plate originates from: ‘Hand-Atlas sammtlicher medicinisch-pharmaceutischer Gewachse.’, by dr. Wilibald Artus, published in Jena by F. Mauke 1848 and later ed. This botanical work was published for use by pharmacists, doctors and druggists. Although at least 7 editions have been published, all must have appeared in small numbers, as this work is very seldom offered for sale.
