Amsterdam: R.W.P. de Vries, [1874]. 4to: [viii], 182 pp. Half cloth over marbled boards. Gilt lettering to the spine. Antique Book, titled: ‘De Oude Schutterij in Nederland’, by: W.J. Hofdijk. A history of the Schutterij in the Netherlands. A Schutterij was a voluntary city guard or local militia, a defensive military support system for the local civic authority.Artists and Engravers: Author(s): W.J. Hofdijk. Willem Jacobsz. Hofdijk (1816-1888) was a Dutch teacher, although he was initially trained as a silversmith. As an author he created romantic poetical works, but he is mainly remembered as an author of historian works. Condition: Very good, given age. The boards a little scuffed, board edges rubbed. Library stamp to the verso of the title page. The plates with dampstains, mostly in the margins (only in two cases seriously affecting the image). Some scattered foxing in the margins of the plates.
