Die Coronijcke van Vlaendren. – These scarse prints show: a) Duke of Burgendy Philip 1 marries Margarethe, daughter of Louis of Male of Flandria, in the Wouburghen church of Oudenaerden in 1355. b) Duke of Flandria, Louis of Male fights the duke of Brabant c) Duke of Flandria, Louis van Male, and his alderman having dinner with the king of France d) Battle of Beverhoutsveld soldiers of Gandt and Bruges fighting each other on May 3 1382. It was the most important moment in the revolt of Gandt, with Philip of Artevelde as leader, against Louis II of Male. e) sheet without engraving about the Spanish war.

This scarse old antique print and incunabel sheet originates from: ‘Die excellente Cronike van Vlaenderen …’, (transl.: Cronicles / History of Flanders, Belgium) by Roelant de Dappere, published by Willem Vorsterman in Antwerp, 1531. This work has splendit woodcut illustrations. Individual prints from this scarse work are rarely offered.

Made by ‘Anonymous’ after ‘Roelant de Doppere’. Bibl. Belgica ascribes the main work to Roelant de Doppere and Antoine de Roovere. The author of the second part is still unknown. The publisher of the work: Willem Vorsterman (Flemish 1504-1540 or 1543) was one of the leading and most productive publishers / printers of his time. He published over 200 works in the period 1524-1540. This work is one of his most popular works. The woodcuts in this work were partly assembled from the publishers inventory and partly made for this work by unknown artists.

Condition: Fair, given age. Waterstains, parts of the paper missing, folds, tears in the paper, been restored. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
