Description
Three prints and one extra copy of the left pane print cut from the title page of a book titled “Galenis Opera,” a work about Galen, the ancient Greek physician whose works were highly influential in the development of various fields of medicine. Illustrations:
– The title page is richly decorated with illustrations, these cut prints, including scenes from Galen’s life and work.
– The central illustration shows a scene of Galen in a scholarly setting, possibly teaching or treating patients.al theories dominated and influenced Western medical science for more than a millennium.
– The Giunta (Junta) family were well-known printers from Florence and Venice, famous for their high-quality editions of classical and medical texts.
The title page and thus these prints reflect the scholarly and historical importance of Galen’s works in the early 17th century, emphasizing the reverence for classical medical knowledge and its preservation and dissemination by prominent publishers of the time.
