‘PLATE 1: H?BREIS NATOS PHARIJ CUM F?UA TYRANNI. PERDERET INA MARES DE FLUMINE TOLLITUR INFANS’

– Plate 1: Pharaoh’s daughter and her handmaidens bathe along the Nile. They discover the infant Moses in a basket among the reeds. Elegant court dress and headdresses dominate the composition. Plate 2: Pharaoh’s daughter, seated, tenderly adopts the young Moses. His mother kneels beside them. Attendants and maids fill the interior of the richly appointed chamber. A window reveals architecture beyond. Plate 3: Pharaoh, seated on a throne, watches thoughtfully as Moses, now a toddler, throws down the royal crown and tramples it. Courtiers and attendants, including Pharaoh’s daughter, look on in astonishment. A fire blazes in the background. Plate 4: The young Moses, watched over by Pharaoh’s daughter, reaches for a glowing coal on a pedestal. To the left, Pharaoh rises in concern as advisors debate. In the background are courtiers and women. The test of Moses’ innocence plays out in a richly staged architectural interior.
