Description
(Man and Woman from Votyak.) These prints portray female figures from the Votyak people, which could be an archaic term for the Udmurt people of Russia. The woman is depicted in a traditional headdress, embroidered garments, and jewelry, indicating the cultural dress. The girl is shown in a similarly styled outfit with vibrant colors and patterns, consistent with traditional festive or ceremonial attire. Biography artist: Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur (1757-1810) was born as son of a diplomat in Montreal, Canada. He was exposed to varying cultures at an early age.
