Le Bouc, La Chevre: This set of two plates shows the domestic goat. Female goats are referred to as does or nannies, intact males as bucks or billies. These old antique prints originate from: “Histoire Naturelle Générale et Particuliere….”, by de Buffon & Dauberton. Nouvelle Edition, Amsterdam J.H. Schneider, 1766. Artists and Engravers: Author: Georges-Louis Le Clerc, Comte de Buffon (September 7, 1707 – April 16, 1788). French naturalist, mathematician, biologist, cosmologist and author. Buffon’s views influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin. The engravers in this work are B. de Bakker, C. Brouwer, O. de Vries, C.F. Fritzsch (1719-c.1772), Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816), H. Vinkeles, Mittelj, G.S. and Fringham after Jacques de Seve (active 1744-1788), J.N., J. v. Schley and Buvee. These plates are engraved by G.S. after de Seve.

Condition: Fine. general age related toning. occasional faint spots / foxing as visible on scan. Please study scan as they picture the item very well.
