Handcoloured lithograph, heightened with Arabic gum on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 16,7 x 26,1 cm. (6,6 x 10,3 inch). Image size: 10 x 16 cm. (3,9 x 6,3 inch).
From the Europe volume of “Moeurs, Usages et Costumes de tous les Peuples de Monde” by Auguste Wahlen. This was published in Paris: Poiree, Pilout, Duterte and Martinon, 1844.
Made by an anonymous engraver after ‘Auguste Wahlen’. Author: Auguste Wahlen. Various artists are responsible for the illustrations, most notably Evrard Duverger, L. Markaert and R. King.
Condition: Good, given age. The margins faintly browned. Some faint ghosting around the image, from the opposite text page in the book. Two small stains in the image area of one of the prints. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
