Made by John Burton after own design.
Medium: Etching with hand colouring on wove (vellin) paper. Watermark: J. Whatman.
Sheet size: 33 x 21.5 cm (12.99 x 8.46 inch). Image size: 23.8 x 18.5 cm. (9.37 x 7.28 inch).
Condition: very good, given age. Light soiling. Title page with more soiling and damages. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
From a series of eleven plates and a title plate. These plates were first published as part of ‘Cottages from Nature.’ by John Burton, published by John Peter Thompson in 1804. This ed. appears published as ‘Johns Burtons Landschafts Maler nach der Natur.’, published in Leipzig im Magazin fur Industrie & Literatur.
State: This state without the ‘Cottages from Nature’ emblem below the image.
Reference: British Museum has a few of the line etchings, uncoloured.
Provenance: Ex. Coll. Dr. Wolf and Werner Klemke (not in Lugt).
Biography engraver: John Burton was a British painter and lithographer active from c.1769-1830.
