Biography engraver: Gerard de Jode (1509-1591) was a Dutch catographer, engraver and publisher from Nijmegen, active in Antwerp. He is particularly known for his Atlas: ‘Speculum Orbis Terrarum’, published in 1578.
Biography artist: Maerten de Vos (1532-1603) was one of the leading Flemish painters and designers of the late Renaissance. Active in Antwerp, he created altarpieces, allegorical works and an extensive corpus of designs for prints. His compositions were widely disseminated through engravings published by major Antwerp print houses.
