Medium: Etching on wove (vellin) paper.
Sheet size: 44 x 57 cm (17.32 x 22.44 inch). Image size: 29.5 x 43 cm. (11.61 x 16.93 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, creasing, and soiling. Large tear at midle right, backed, not very noticable. Several small tears in the paper edges, not effecting the image. Minor paper toning and handling wear in the margins. Strong dark impression. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Biography engraver: Frans Hogerwaard (1882–1921) was a Dutch painter and printmaker born in Weltevreden, Java. He studied in Haarlem and at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam, later travelling extensively through Europe and North Africa after winning the Prix de Rome in 1910. His work often reflects Art Nouveau influences and cosmopolitan, elegant subjects. Frans Hogerwaard became known for refined and atmospheric depictions of fashionable and exotic subjects inspired by his travels through Madrid, Rome, Venice and Algiers. He died prematurely in The Hague at the age of 38.
