Biography artist: Sébastien Le Clerc (1637-1714) was a French engraver, draftsman, engineer and mathematician active in Paris. He became one of the foremost printmakers of the reign of Louis XIV and produced thousands of prints including landscapes, architectural capricci, ornament designs, book illustrations and topographical views. His compositions were widely copied throughout Europe during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
