BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Published by Raphael Sadeler I in 1589 as part of the ‘power of woman of men’ series.

Biography engraver: Raphael Sadeler I (1560/1561-1628/1632), Flemish engraver and publisher, was one of the most prominent members of the Sadeler family of printmakers. Working in Venice, Munich, and Prague, he created and published a vast range of prints, especially after Northern Mannerist artists.
Biography artist: Jodocus van Winghe (1544-1603), a Flemish painter and designer, was known for his courtly allegorical and biblical works. He worked in Frankfurt and was a central figure in early Northern Mannerism, designing many scenes reproduced in print.
