Medium: Etching and engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 17 x 23.3 cm (6.69 x 9.17 inch). Image size: 11.6 x 17 cm. (4.57 x 6.69 inch).

Condition: good, given age. Light foxing, soiling and creasing. Area at top middle with paper loss, backed and retouched with ink. Rear: Some thin paper spots, small hole and remains of paper from attachment. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published by Claes Jansz. Visscher, 1633.

Biography engraver: Jan van de Velde II (1593 – c.1641) was a Dutch Golden Age engraver, calligrapher and publisher known for his finely detailed etchings and prints. He trained under Jacob Matham and worked in Haarlem, creating landscapes, allegories and emblematic prints, often imbued with moral or vanitas themes.
