BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Plate 2 from the second series of 12 large landscapes after Marco Ricci. Published by Giuseppe (Joseph) Wagner (active in Venice).

Biography engraver: Giuliano Giampiccoli (1703?1759), Venetian engraver, known for architectural and capriccio prints, worked with Wagner and other major Venetian publishers.

Biography artist: Marco Ricci (1676?1730), Venetian painter of landscapes, theatrical scenery, and capricci; known for picturesque scenes of ruins and classical architecture.
