Medium: Etching and drypoint on wove (vellin) paper.

Sheet size: 32 x 17 cm (12.6 x 6.69 inch). Image size: 20.6 x 9.5 cm. (8.11 x 3.74 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. Crisp impression on full sheet. Very minor toning to edges. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Joseph Pennell (ca. 1860-1926) was an American etcher, illustrator, and author known for his depictions of industrial landscapes and cityscapes. A close friend of James McNeill Whistler, Pennell emulated Whistler’s techniques in composition and tone. He worked extensively in Europe before returning to the US during World War I.
