Biography engraver: Johann Wilhelm Baur (1607-1642), Strasbourg-born artist and engraver, was active in Italy and the Habsburg Empire. He is best known for his elaborate series of etchings illustrating Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Baur’s works reflect a refined miniature style and baroque sensibility. He died in Vienna while working on imperial commissions.
