Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: Crowned French lily.

Sheet size: 28.9 x 37.6 cm (11.38 x 14.8 inch). Image size: 27 x 35 cm. (10.63 x 13.78 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. Remains of paper at top rear from previous attachment. 2 Professional repaired tears in bottom margin, not noticable at front. Tiny tear at left bottom paper edge. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Based on a painted portrait by Michiel van Mierevelt.

Reference: Museum inventory BdH 2973 (PK).

Biography engraver: Willem Jacobsz. Delff (1580?1638), Dutch engraver and painter from Delft. He became one of the leading reproductive engravers of the Dutch Golden Age, known especially for portraits after Michiel van Mierevelt, producing works that widely disseminated Mierevelt’s painted likenesses of European rulers, nobles, and statesmen.

Biography artist: Michiel van Mierevelt (1566?1641), Dutch Golden Age painter, renowned as one of the most successful portraitists of his time. Based in Delft, he painted numerous portraits of European monarchs, nobles, and military leaders, many of which were engraved and circulated across Europe.
