BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Biography engraver: Hendrick Hondius I (1573-1650) was a Dutch engraver, cartographer, and publisher active in The Hague. He is known for his print portraits and the major artist series Pictorum aliquot celebrium, promoting Northern European artistic heritage.
Biography artist: Lucas van Leyden (1494-1533) was a pioneering Dutch engraver and painter, celebrated for his intricate engravings and refined early Renaissance style. One of the first to use genre scenes in prints and among the earliest Netherlandish printmakers.
