BACKGROUND INFORMATION

This print originates from ‘Amsterdam, In Zyne Opkomst, Aanwas, Geschiedenissen, Voorregten, Koophandel, Gebouwen, Kerkenstaat, Schoolen, Schutterye, Gilden En Regeeringe.’ Published 1760 – 1767.

Biography engraver: Paulus van Liender (1731-1797) was a Dutch engraver and draughtsman known for his highly detailed topographical views. He was a student of Cornelis Pronk and played a key role in the Haarlem Tekenacademie. His works range from pure topography to more romanticized depictions of landscapes and ruins.
