‘”DOET AL INT WEL. ENSIET NIET OM.”‘

– A detailed 17th-century engraving of Jacob Cornelisz, a servant of the Christian community (Dienaer der Gemeinte Christi) and surgeon in Amsterdam, born in Rotterdam in 1608. He is depicted seated in a formal pose, gesturing with his left hand while holding a small book in his right. His desk contains medical instruments, anatomical drawings, and books, suggesting his profession. This print was engraved by Frederick Hendrick van den Hove after a design by Cornelis Visscher II. The engraving reflects the fine line work, chiaroscuro shading, and expressive portraiture characteristic of Dutch Golden Age printmaking.
