‘A.B. TAUREL’

– A finely executed portrait of Andre Benoit Barreau Taurel, a Dutch engraver and teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. The portrait, created by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in 1819, shows Taurel at 25 years old, elegantly posed with one hand on his hip and dressed in early 19th-century attire. Behind him, the Villa Medici in Rome is subtly sketched, reflecting his presence in the artistic hub of Europe. The engraving was later completed by Charles Edouard Taurel (1824-1892). A striking representation of a significant figure in Dutch printmaking.
