– Antique engraved map of the United States, published in Paris in 1816 by Alexandre Emile Lapie. This map provides an early depiction of the United States, showcasing significant geopolitical borders that existed for only a short period. Notable features include the Mississippi Territory before Alabama was created, a massive Indiana encompassing Illinois, and the Louisiana Territory still undivided. The map also depicts Feliciana, a region that was briefly part of the short-lived Republic of West Florida (1810) before being annexed into Louisiana. Additionally, it shows Michigan Territory, as well as East and West Florida still under Spanish control. The hydrography of the Mississippi River north of Missouri is corrected, and St. Louis is distinctly marked. The map reflects significant improvements in geographical accuracy compared to earlier versions.

Biography engraver: Alexandre Emile Lapie (1779-1839) was a French cartographer, engraver, and geographer who produced highly detailed maps of the world during the early 19th century. He served as chief geographer for the French military and published several atlases. His works were widely recognized for their accuracy and were used for military and political reference during his time.
