Biography engraver: Dirk Sluyter (1790-1852) was a Dutch engraver, painter, etcher, and draughtsman born on 19 January 1790 in Amsterdam. Known for his maritime scenes, Sluyter was active during the early 19th century and worked predominantly in Amsterdam (1805?1852). He was a citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and father to Dirk Jurriaan Sluyter.
Biography artist: Thomas Whitcombe (possibly 1763- c.1824) was a prominent British maritime painter of the Napoleonic Wars. Among his work are over 150 actions of the Royal Navy, and he exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists. His pictures are highly sought after today.
