Biography engraver: Johann Ludwig Aberli (1723-1786) was a Swiss painter and engraver from Winterthur, best known for his idyllic landscapes and scenic views of Swiss cities and countryside. Aberli was a pioneer in the popularization of Swiss landscape art during the 18th century. He developed a distinct style of aquatint prints that contributed significantly to Swiss printmaking.
