BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Original antique master print. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters. Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Mitchell after a painting by Singleton. This print was published by J. Deeley, in 1809. Although the plate is signed G. Singleton, we assume Henry Singleton was meant. .
Biography engraver: Henry Singleton (1766-1839) was an English painter, born into an artistic family in London. He was mainly known for his portraits. Although H. Mitchell is credited on the plate, we think Edward Mitchell might be intended. Little else is known of him, but that he was active 1797-1830 and engraved numerous works after Singleton.
