According to the annotations of a previous dealer, this print was part of a portfolio of twelve prints published by the art circle “De Grafische” in 1929, in an edition of 100 copies. Uncaptioned and unsigned, the wavy lines of the water running beyond the image border. These lines are far more defined than in the one other copy we have been able to trace in published online collections. This suggests this is an early printing from the plate. The print has delicate plate tones, also suggestive of an early printing.

Made by ‘Antoon Derkzen van Angeren’ after own design. Anthonius Philippus (Antoon) Derkzen van Angeren (Delft 1878 – Bedford (Canada) 1961) was a Dutch etcher, graphic artist and painter. He initially made illustrations for the faience pottery firm De Porceleyne Fles. There he was stimulated by Leon Senf to concentrate on etching and painting. Thus he slowly became an independent artist. He moved to Rotterdam in 1911, where the harbour became his inspiration. From 1917 to 1943 he was a teacher at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam.

Condition: Very good, given age. Some small surface imperfections in the lower margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
