Made by John Smith after Carlo Maratti. John Smith (1652-1742) was one the most important English maker and publisher of mezzotint portraits around 1700. He worked after Kneller, Wissing and Dahl and produced many fine mezzotints. Bottom caption mentions Maratti but according to British Museum this should be Giuseppe Bartolommeo Chiari.
Condition: Good, given age. At top middle and bottom some tears, which have been professionally restored. A few thin paper spots from minimal scratching. Trimmed just outside plate mark. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
