Engraving on hand laid paper. Watermark: no.
Sheet size: 18,5 x 22,2 cm. (7,3 x 8,7 inch). Image size: 17 x 21,5 cm. (6,7 x 8,5 inch).

This attractive print was published at first in Utrecht between 1620-1638. This reprint was done by Amsler & Ruthardt between 1860 -1920 (see the blue stamp). Print dealers and publishers based in Berlin. Founded in 1860 in Berlin by Hermann Amsler and Theodor Ruthardt; sold in 1877 to the brothers Louis Gerhard Meder (q.v.) and Albert Meder who ran the firm until after 1920. Their prints are stamped with the blind stamp Lugt 4620. Ref: Hollstein Dutch 11. Provenance: Stamp on the reverse from Amsler & Ruthardt, Berlin.

Made by ‘Jan Both’ after ‘Andries Both’. Jan Dirksz Both (between 1610 and 1618 ?1652) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, and etcher, who made an important contribution to the development of Dutch Italianate landscape painting.

Condition: Good, given age. Crease in upper right corner. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
