Plate 85: ‘Gregorius een Ariaansch Bisschop te Alexandrie door ‘t graauw mishandeld, en zyne kerk in de brand gestoken’ (The people burning the church of and beating Gregorius, an Aryan bishop of Alexandria). It shows: A church on fire in the background, while a group of people attacks Gregorius, the Aryan bishop. This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C.
