Plate 83: ‘Licius een Ariaansch Bisschop onverhoeds op een bal treedende, zo maaken de jongens daar over een groot getier’ (A small riot of young boys, caused by Licius, an Aryan bishop, treading on a ball accidentally). It shows: Four angry boys approaching a bishop because he stepped on their ball. This original engraving originates from ‘Tafereelen der eerste Christenen, bestaande in 92 konstprenten’ (Scenes of the first Christians, in 92 prints). This book was published in 1740 in Amsterdam by Gerrity de Groot and Jacobus Rijkhof. The prints by Luyken are accompanied by texts by P. Langendyk and C. Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold. Some general age-related toning and thumbing, please study scan carefully.
