Antique print, titled: ‘Arcam sibi fecit Noe ex mandato Domini … Gen. VI.’ – Plate 9: Noah oversees three of his sons sawing and cutting timber for the hull of the Ark. “Sacrae historiae acta a Raphaele Urbin. in Vaticanis xystis ad picturae miraculum expressa Nicolaus Chapron”, first published in Rome, 1649. This work contains plates engraved after Raphael’s Vatican murals. Ref: IconClass 71B3211.Artists and Engravers: Made by ‘Nicolas Chapron’ after an anonymous artist. The engraver of this work is Nicolas Chapron / Chaperon, French (1612-1656), designed after the Vatican murals by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520). The publisher of this edition is Pierre Mariette (1634-1716).
Condition: Good, given age. Original tiny binding holes in the left margin (as issued, not affecting image). Small stain in right lower, not affecting image. A very faint dampstain in the lower left, partly over the image, but hardly visible. General age-related toning and occasional light stains from handling. Please study image carefully.
