Print Description
Subject: Antique print, titled: ”Alle de Werken van Mr. Wilhelm Perkins […].” – This rare allegorical title page shows a portrait of William Perkins (1558–1602). He was an influential English cleric and Cambridge theologian, receiving both a B.A. and M.A. from the university in 1581 and 1584 respectively, and also one of the foremost leaders of the Puritan movement in the Church of England during the Elizabethan era. The oval portrait is carried by two putti, with Moses and Christ to the sides of the portrait. Above the portrait a group of saints.
Condition: Fair, given age. Paper loss top right, plate not affected; remargined. Some minor creases. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
Medium: Copperplate engraving / etching. on hand laid (verge) paper.
