View through a gate with curtains onto the allegorical grave monument for prince Willem V. The tomb is flanked by muses representing the truth and persiverence (right) and immortality (left). At the base a writing historie (right) and a mother with three children.

Christian Didrik Forssell (1777-1852) was a Swedish painter, draughtman and print maker. He was a pupil of Elisaeus Winding; from 1791 apprenticeship as a goldsmith and seal engraver in Zeist (Netherland); in 1794/95 interpreter for French general Pichegru; in the late 1790s settled as engraver in Amsterdam; trained under Bervic in Paris 1806-08; in 1815 member of the art academy in Stockholm where became professor of drawing in 1817.
