Description

Subject: Title engraving with scenes relating to a foolish virgin, a child murder and an exemplary household / family  and a plate depicting a feasting company. Attached to 3 sheets with manuscript writing, probably from a later date (18th.c.?).

Medium: Etching / engraving on hand laid paper (verge).

Artists and engravers: Plates made by Cornelis van Kittesteyn after Adriaen Pietersz. van de Venne.

Biographies: Cornelis van Kittesteyn / Kittestein / Kittesteijn (1597-1652) was a Dutch engraver, draughtsman and art dealer from Delft, active in Haarlem. Adriaen Pietersz van de Venne (1589-1662), was a reknown Dutch painter of allegories, genre subjects and portraits, as well as a miniaturist and designer of political satires, book illustrations and a versifier.
