– Original antique print illustrating a biblical scene from the New Testament, Matthew 8; A sudden storm hits a boat carrying Jesus and his disciples. While waves crash into the vessel, a deeply exhausted Jesus sleeps. Terrified, the disciples wake him. Jesus calms the wind and waves with a word, showing his power over nature.

Biography engraver: Matthijs Pool (1676–1740) was an engraver from the Dutch Republic.

Biography artist: Bernard Picart (1673-1733) was a French painter and engraver. He received his art education from his father, Etienne (1632-1721), from Le Brun and Jouvenet at the Royal Academy. His talents developed rapidly: at the age of sixteen he gained honors at the Academy of Paris. His prints in the ‘French’ taste were very popular. His way of working was also very influential for the book illustration in the Netherlands. Pieter de Hondt, Dutch publisher and bookseller (1696–1764).
