– Original antique print illustrating a biblical scene from the New Testament, Matthew 26; Jesus shares His final meal with His disciples. During this Passover, a holiday remembering when God saved the Israelites from slavery, Jesus transforms the bread and wine into the Lord’s Supper. He tells them the bread is His body and the cup is His blood, given to forgive sins.

Biography engraver: Abraham de Blois (active 1679-1720), Dutch Engraver and mezzotinter.

Biography artist: Bernard Picart (1673-1733) was a French painter and engraver. He received his art education from his father, Etienne (1632-1721), from Le Brun and Jouvenet at the Royal Academy. His talents developed rapidly: at the age of sixteen he gained honors at the Academy of Paris. His prints in the ‘French’ taste were very popular. His way of working was also very influential for the book illustration in the Netherlands. Pieter de Hondt, Dutch publisher and bookseller (1696–1764).
