This plate originate from a 1704 Dutch ed. of the works of Tacitus, translated by P.C. Hooft.
Biography engraver: Joseph Mulder (1658, Amsterdam – 1742, Amsterdam), was a renowned Dutch Golden Age printmaker.
Biography artist: Publius Cornelius Tacitus was a Roman historian and politician. Tacitus is widely regarded as one of the greatest Roman historians by modern scholars. Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft (1581 – 1647) – Knight in the Order of Saint Michael – was a Dutch historian, poet and playwright who lived during the Dutch Golden Age in literature.
