Description
This drawing shows a view on the biblical story of David and Nathan. The harp of David is laying on the ground. Nathan rebuked David for his adultery with Bathsheba. He told David that there was a rich man who took the only lamb from his poor neighbor to serve it to his own guests. David said that the rich man deserved death for this. At this, Nathan said, “This man is you” (2 Samuel 12). The Prophet then announced that “henceforth… murder and manslaughter in [David’s] royal family [would] spread”. Despite the king’s repentance, Bathsheba’s first child would die.
