Description
This print shows a view on a portrait of Saint Cointha of Alexandria. Part of a series of 24 depictions of female martyrs (martyrologium). The plate have edges with flowers and animals. This print is a mirror image of the original. Poem in latin below with translation: “Because she despised the wicked temples of the gods, martyr, you die of countless cruel wounds.”

Medium: Engraving on hand laid (vergé) paper.
Sheet size: 18.5 x 26.2 cm (7.28 x 10.31 inch). Image size: 14.5 x 18.7 cm. (5.71 x 7.36 inch).
Condition: good, given age. Brown edges. Water stain lower right corner. Remains of paper tape on reverse. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
