Biography engraver: Utagawa Kunisada I (1786-1864), also known as Toyokuni III, was one of the most prolific and commercially successful designers of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in Edo. A pupil of Utagawa Toyokuni I, he became the leading master of the Utagawa school and specialized in kabuki actor prints (yakusha-e), bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), and illustrated books. His vibrant color prints and refined line work made him one of the dominant figures of 19th-century Japanese printmaking.

Biography artist: Miyagi Gengy? (????, 1817-1880), also known as Bais?tei Gengy?, was an ukiyo-e artist and painter active circa 1845-1868. He frequently collaborated with leading designers such as Kunisada, contributing refined still-life, floral, and decorative upper-register compositions to multi-part prints and poetic series.
