BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Francesco Moucke (publisher), Museo Florentino (Museum Florentinum), Serie di Ritratti de Pittori, Florence, 1752-1762 (Stamperia Mouckiana).

Biography engraver: Carlo Gregori (1719-1759) was an Italian engraver active in Florence. He worked extensively for the Stamperia Mouckiana and contributed plates to the Museo Florentino, producing refined engravings after paintings in Florentine collections.

Biography artist: Giovanni Domenico Ferretti (1692-1768) was an Italian painter of the late Baroque period, active mainly in Florence. The original portrait derives from a self-portrait by Bartholomeus Spranger (1546-1611), a Flemish Mannerist painter active at the court of Emperor Rudolf II in Prague. Spranger was known for his elegant, elongated figures and mythological compositions.
