BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Published in Germany, 1872. Possibly issued as part of an art print portfolio by A.H. Payne.

Biography engraver: Albert Henry Payne (1812-1902) was an English engraver and publisher active in Germany. He specialized in highly detailed steel engravings for illustrated books and art portfolios, often reproducing works of Dutch and German masters.

Biography artist: Adriaen van de Velde (1636-1672) was a Dutch Golden Age painter renowned for his delicate and atmospheric landscapes, often populated with figures and animals. His work reflects the influence of both Italianate and Dutch pastoral traditions.
