Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.

Sheet size: 11.5 x 8 cm (4.53 x 3.15 inch). Image size: 11.5 x 8 cm. (4.53 x 3.15 inch).

Condition: very good, given age. Light foxing, creasing and soiling. Trimmed to the image. Ocassional small damage to paper edges. Loosely attached to a carrier sheet. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Amstelredams eer ende opcomen…, text by Leonardus Marius, published by Hendrick Aertssens, Antwerp, 1639. This work served as a encourgement to catholics to continue their faith, despite the times of reformation.

Provenance: Ex. collection G. Leonhardt.

Biography engraver: Boetius a Bolswert (ca. 1580-1633) was a renowned Flemish engraver known for his collaborations with Rubens and Van Dyck. His engravings are marked by technical refinement and deep religious expression.

Biography artist: Leonardus Marius (1588-1652) was a professor in theologie in Amsterdam.
