– Satirical theatrical scene showing Arlequin disguised as a barber, shaving his rivals Belloardo and Capitano using flour paste. His assistant Pierot holds the bowl of flour, while Arlequin hides a club under his arm. A humorous sign above the door reads ‘CHIRURGYN a la Mode’.

Biography engraver: Pieter Tanje (1706-1761) was a Dutch engraver known for his portraits and theatre prints. He collaborated with Jacobus Houbraken and helped spread the work of Cornelis Troost.

Biography artist: Cornelis Troost (1696-1750), one of the most important Dutch painters of 18th-century theatre life. Known for his satirical depictions of Amsterdam society and the stage.
